AntiTesi in collaboration with the Superintendence for Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Trapani,, is announcing a Call for Proposals for Sound installations to present at Ex Stabilimento Florio delle Tonnare di Favignana e Formica in Favignana island.
This call is connected to the Eighth edition of the Live!IXem festivals of music, sound and electronic arts.
The aim is to highlight the works of those artists who, involved in an experimental and creative exploration, use sound, integrating it with electronic audio-visual and digital design for Art installations in specific sites.
Another aim is to witness the new aesthetic in contemporary art through a new way to conceive and carry out works within (or outside) of architectural spaces.
In this regard, the spaces that will host this could not be more appropriate: the former Florio Tuna factory on the island of Favignana in Sicily, the largest of the Mediterranean, which takes its name from a family of entrepreneurs that at the beginning of the twentieth century was the great protagonist in Sicily, the Belle Epoque. The ancient structure located in the largest of the Egadi islands, were obtained after the recent restoration of museum space, a conference room with 400 seats and a guest room.
To make this call even stronger there will be a collaboration between Live!iXem and OpenSound a platform that brings together seven European partners to create a project for cooperation and exchange that puts the sound in the middle of a series of outreach and artistic initiatives.
Open Sound is in fact a Grundtvig project for mobility and partnership in the training supported by the EU through through the agency LLP – Life Long Learning Programme. Thanks to this partnership, Sicily will be the first venue where the festival will converge with some of the major representatives linked to the European art scene and musical sound research. During the festival, workshops will be conducted by some of the guest artists (the access to workshops is free of charge): this will contribute to become familiar with the locations of the former Florio Tuna factory on the island of Favignana.
SUBMISSIONS
We encourage proposals for site specific Sound Installations that will have to be set up in one of the locations of the Ex Stabilimento Florio della Tonnare di Favignana e Formica in Favignana Island Italy. Subscription and participation to the call are free of charge. It will be necessary to explore the locations through specific preparatory visits during Live!iXem Festival 2011, from 8 to 11 december 2011.

Le musiche raccolte sotto questo titolo sono le musiche di scena composte ed eseguite per lo spettacolo multimediale omonimo, senza gli interventi dal vivo di Ilaria Drago e Roberto Laneri e senza le immagini di Alberto Tessore. La prima dello spettacolo ha avuto luogo a Roma, teatro Vascello, l’8.10.2005.
Un’antica leggenda parla di razze umane per le quali l’esperienza reale era invece quella del sogno, e lo stato di veglia una fase assai meno creativa e produttiva. Alcuni pensano che gli aborigeni australiani siano tra gli ultimi rappresentanti di queste antiche civiltà, portatori di un sapere le cui origini e modalità ci sfuggono nella loro profondità e complessità, ma che tuttavia entrano in risonanza con le nostre radici più profonde.
Il suono diventa allora una porta di accesso ad altri mondi altrimenti preclusi, ma accessibili purché ci si ponga in uno stato di ascolto e di apertura non condizionato da fattori culturali. Purché si tratti di suoni ricchi di vibrazioni universali, che parlano un linguaggio senza tempo, originario e complesso al tempo stesso.
Questa musica è un tentativo di accedere ad un mio dreamtime personale oltre che collettivo, senza tuttavia in alcun modo cercare di rifarsi in modo letterale a modelli aborigeni. Gran parte di essa ha avuto origine come ricordi e spunti onirici, ed anche la sua elaborazione è spesso avvenuta in stati di coscienza indotti da tecniche di yoga nidra, nelle quali si ricerca il sogno cosciente. Eccettuato il primo pezzo, per la voce di Ilaria Drago, il CD è stato interamente realizzato da Roberto Laneri, con i seguenti strumenti:
voce (soprattutto nella modalità “canto armonico”), clarinetto, clarinetto basso, sax sopranino, sax soprano, vari didjeridoo, tubi di plexiglas intonati, k’ang-kling (strumento tibetano costituito da un osso femorale umano), varie zucche intonate costruite dall’autore, scacciapensieri, tamburo etiopico*, sanza del Burundi*, cembali tibetani.Ampio uso è stato fatto di tecniche digitali di registrazione e di sound processing; al contempo, molti effetti apparentemente elettronici sono il risultato della pura e semplice scrittura e sovrapposizione di parti.

Wolfram’s sites offer a lot of resources about mathematics.
Founded by Stephen Wolfram in 1987, Wolfram Research is one of the world’s most respected software companies—as well as a powerhouse of scientific and technical innovation. As pioneers in computational science and the computational paradigm, we have pursued a long-term vision to develop the science, technology, and tools to make computation an ever-more-potent force in today’s and tomorrow’s world.
Their software Mathematica, not for free, allows to compute data to create interactive demonstrations; look at some examples here.
There is the possibility to examine for free a lot of their applications downloading and installing their player, unfortunately for Windows only, after that it is enough you visit the demonstrations page, browse a topic – e.g. Physical Sciences …
… and choose a subtopic, e.g. Physics and then Acoustics …

An emotion detector for baby
An interesting project by a japanese team. It could be possible to codify and to interpret the emotional state of babies analyzing power spectrum and pitch of their crying.

Japanese scientists report details of a statistical computer program that can analyze a baby’s crying in the International Journal of Biometrics.
As any new parent knows, babies have a very loud method of revealing their emotional state – crying. Unfortunately, the parenting handbook does not offer guidance on how to determine what the crying means. From the ashes of dharmasound a new entity is born: dsound.org netlabel, good and free music over the web, different elements and different styles with a special care to experimental sounds.
We are proud to be again online with a new name, new website and a new catalog that we inaugurate with the compilation We Want To Beehivemind, a projects that we launched before the closure of the netlabel dharmasound.

On this site we can’t download or listen to music, but it can be useful to obtain a lot of news about a composer, a musician, a music band.
For each inquiry we have (only few):
profile, genre, similar artists for genre, discography, family, a set of photos, at a glance, videos on youtube, explore timeline (very nice), notable events & trivia, websites, credits, release type, …
The timeline service is very nice, we can drag the down-bar through time to obtain news about releases with zoom in and zoom out possibility.
Anyone can add news about an artist. Nice.

Questo servizio non ci permette di ascoltare o scaricare file audio, ma di ottenere una serie di informazioni utili riguardanti un artista musicale, come profilo, genere, discografia, video su youtube, timeline, web sites, credits e altro.
La timeline ci consente di visualizzare la cronologia delle release del compositore mediante un semplice sistema di drag e zoom.
Chiunque può rendersi utile e contribuire inserendo dati, news, foto e altro (informazioni che saranno vagliate da Amazon).

Questo è un altro video di Gjertsen che mi piace particolarmente, sia musicalmente – compositore ed esecutore Giovanni Sollima – sia poeticamente.

So this is the project I’ve been working on for the last 5 months, and heres how part 1 of it is made:
On the six arms parts, which by the way took most of the time to make, I filmed Sollima playing the different layers of cello after each other. I then edited the video frame by frame in Photoshop (remember, it’s 25 frames per second of video), cutting his arms out from the other layers and pasting it on top, matching the movement of the cello. This was done ca 4000 times, by myself.
The clouds were actually filmed in my backyard, sped up 1250 times. The birds we’re filmed in my town, Larvik, Norway on clear blue sky, so that I could use blue screen keying to put them on top of the clouds. It’s hard to notice, but the birds are moving in half speed slow motion. I also had to stabilize the motion of the birds, since I filmed it with handhelt camcorder. The sequence was cut together using After Effects and Premiere.
The forest, river sequence was photographed in a forest in Arona, Italy. I took a picture ca. every five meters, and morphed the images together using WinMorph, matching the pace of the music.
The zooming sequence is very hard to explain. Basically, the first 8 seconds after it starts zooming and when you see Mr Sollima’s face is real photos. The rest inbetween are “painted” in Photoshop by me.
The rest of this part is merely editing in Premiere and After Effects. Allright!

Ormai non si parla che di questo, molti blogger distribuiscono inviti per poter usufruire gratuitamente della versione beta di questo software che permette di godere in streaming di ciò che viene definita la TV del futuro.
In effetti l’idea sfornata dai creatori di Skype e Kazaa è veramente interessante, vedremo come sarà sviluppata e gestita.
Per ora i canali, gratuiti, non sono molti, però la qualità mi sembra buona, a patto di possedere un PC con buone prestazioni e connessione adsl, ed esiste anche la possibilità di interagire con altri utenti.
Per ogni canale è prevista la consultazione dei programmi orari e descrizione dei contenuti.
Se qualcuno fosse interessato ad ottenere un invito lasci un commento a questo post, vedrò di inoltrarvi il tutto quanto prima.
