From Wikipedia:
It is important to distinguish between a file format and a codec. A codec performs the encoding and decoding of the raw audio data while the data itself is stored in a file with a specific audio file format. Though most audio file formats support only one audio codec, a file format may support multiple codecs, as AVI does.
XRECODE is a great multilanguage free software for audio encoding. Look at this clear picture to understand:
It can convert multiple files in parallel using multi-core CPU.
It is very simple.
It is very efficient.
Full unicode support for input and output files under Win2K,XP,VISTA.
Confirmed to run under linux via Wine (Ubuntu 8.04)

The article the defines a freeware, instead it’s to payment, this is disinformation!!!
NO Fabrizio, you are really misinformed!
When I wrote this post, two years ago, XRECODE was free, like now:
http://www.xdownload.it/software_19879/xrecode.html
Probably you are talking about XRECODE II, so, please, try to read exactly before writing nonsense.
In any case, pay attention to the time date of any post, maybe a software was free some years ago and for payment now, but I can’t control all my old posts.
Your words are really DISINFORMATION!
Today I can say the software XRECODE is not longer available for free; in fact the link http://www.xdownload.it/software_19879/xrecode.html redirect to the XRECODE II new version.
